Linnet Clough is run by Greater Manchester East County Scout Council and adheres to the Policy, Organisation and Rules (P.O.R.) of The Scout Association. There may be some questions that you’d like to ask before you stay with us. We hope that this leaflet answers some of these.
No staff live on site, however the volunteer service crew may be there overnight on busier days.
Linnet Clough operates a comprehensive Child Protection/Safeguarding Policy. All paid and volunteer staff are subject to an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (DBS) check.
As leader in charge of your group we expect you to maintain overall supervision of your members at all times. During activities a responsible adult should assist with general supervision while activity instructors will take responsibility for the technical and safety aspects of the activity.
During non-activity time the leader in charge will be responsible for supervision of the group.
All activities requiring a qualified instructor can be booked using your own instructors. They will need to provide evidence of the appropriate Scout or Guide Permit, Authorisation or NGB qualifications.
For The Cube High Ropes a Scout Climbing Supervisor Permit, Guide Level 1, Cube Training Course or SPA is required as well as a short induction from our staff.
The lake is Class ‘C’ water so water activities may be run according to The Scout Association’s water activity rules as found in P.O.R..
Please call the office for any clarification of these rules.
A number of non-instructor led activities are available for hire. We also have a wide selection of games and resources – please ask for details of the current resources available.
Linnet Clough will provide safety equipment for booked activities where required.
Leaders in charge should ensure correct provision for all other activities not booked at Linnet Clough, as appropriate. You will also need to ensure your group members have suitable clothing for prevailing weather conditions and appropriate for the activities in your programme.
Linnet Clough staff have access to First Aid and emergency contacts.
The only special permission needed is for air rifle shooting.
All participants under the age of 18 will need to have a ‘Permission to Shoot’ form which must be completed and signed by their parent or guardian. The form can be downloaded from www.gmescouts.org.uk/downloads/booking-forms.aspx
